curated by Bruno Massa
galerie bruno massa is pleased to introduce to international audience for its first time a solo show by Kim Soo Young with dozen of artworks from March 2nd to May 9th 2026.
There is a woman walking through the streets of West Africa. On her head, a tray of dried fish. In one hand, water. On her back, a sleeping child. Beside her, another child keeping pace with her stride. She does not slow down. She does not ask to be seen. And yet — she is the most complete image of a Queen Kim Soo young has ever witnessed. Still, She Carries is an exhibition rooted in that single, unrepeatable moment. A moment where physical endurance and invisible grace collapsed into one body, one movement, one truth: that the greatest authority is not seized — it is sustained. These paintings do not romanticise strength. They sit with it honestly — and with everything that shadows it. A marriage. A divorce. The particular silence of a body that will not bear children. The absence that reshapes what it means to be a woman, to desire motherhood, to carry its ghost long after the possibility has passed.
The Queen in Kim Soo Young's work is never an abstraction. She is made of fish dried under African sun, of arms extended toward children who exist and children who do not, of a dignity so continuous it becomes invisible to those around her. She carries what is given and what is taken. She carries what was hoped for and what was lost. She carries cultures — African, European, Korean — layered beneath her skin like sediment.
Still — she stands. Still — she moves. Still — she carries.
In this immersive online 3D exhibition, the viewer enters a space where painting becomes presence. Where the Queen is not placed on a pedestal, but encountered — at eye level, in motion, in full.
Because she was never above us. She was always among us.
Kim Soo Young is a Korean-born artist whose practice has been shaped by over two decades of immersion in French artistic traditions. Moving fluidly between fine art and fashion, she has developed a visual language that defies easy categorization — rooted equally in personal memory and cross-cultural experience. Her work draws from travels across West Africa, life in Europe, and the cultural heritage of Korea, weaving these influences into large-scale figurative paintings executed in mixed media on hanji, Korean traditional paper. At the center of her practice stands the figure of the Queen — not as symbol of power, but as embodiment of endurance, femininity, and the silent authority of those who carry the weight of the world.
